Centre for Technology Assessment (TA-SWISS)

Logo von Zentrum für Technologiefolgen-Abschätzung
TA-SWISS - this is the short name for Centre for Technology Assessment, implying the institution's main task. Looking into the future, we investigate technical applications with the potential to radically change our lives henceforth.
While untried technologies applied prematurely and without extensive previous evaluation can have far-reaching consequences, it can equally prove disastrous to disregard technical innovation. It is therefore all the more important to shed light on various aspects of ongoing technological developments at an early stage.
TA-SWISS complies with its legal mandate stipulated in the Swiss Federal Law to Promote Research and Innovation. Its publications are aimed at decision-makers in the realms of politics, business and administration as well as at a general public. TA-SWISS hereby provides the basis for political decision-making in the field of technology. Institutionally, it is an independent centre of competence of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.
TA-SWISS cooperates with various international technology assessment committees, with a special engagement in the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment (EPTA) network. Moreover, it works closely together with TA institutions in neighbouring countries.

Year founded: 1992
