International Science Council established

The International Science Council (ISC) creates a single organisation that serves as the global voice for the sciences. The ISC is the result of the merger of International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). The founding General Assembly took place on 4 July in Paris.

At this meeting, the members of the two predecessor organisations elected their representatives of the governing structures of the new International Science Council.

The global membership of the International Science Council comprises 180 national science bodies and international scientific unions. The Swiss science communities are represented in the ISC through the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHS).
