The SCNAT strengthens the participation of the Swiss natural sciences in international research networks and programmes and thereby contributes to a strengthening of Switzerland as a centre of science.
The SCNAT represents the interests of the Swiss natural science community in the International Science Council (ISC), an umbrella organisation with more than 140 national and regional science organisations as well as more than 40 international scientific unions. It does so by delegating scientists to scientific advisory bodies of ICSU programmes, currently with representation in those for Future Earth and for the World Data System (WDS). The SCNAT also supports the membership of Swiss National Committees in international scientific unions through its Platforms Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences as well as Mathematics, Astronomy and Physics.
