The Extended Board approves the multi-year plan and its budget framework for the attention of the General Assembly. It issues the rules of procedure for the Executive Board, the Extended Executive Board, the platforms and the Secretariat. The Extended Board is composed of the members of the Executive Board and the presidents of the platforms.

The central tasks of the Extended Board are to bundle the strategic management of SCNAT and the platforms into an overall plan, which results in multi-year and annual plans.
