During a recent visit to the Bedretto Underground Laboratory, an ETH facility operated by the Department of Earth Sciences, Björn Penning (University of Zurich) presented the potential of this underground infrastructure for future particle and astroparticle physics research in Switzerland to representatives from ETH Zurich.

Recent characterisation studies indicate that the Bedretto site may offer interesting opportunities for low-background and underground physics research in Switzerland, complementing existing international facilities. An overview of these studies is available in a recent arXiv publication, link.
