The Swiss Society for Crystallography (SSCr) and its section of crystal growth and material research are used as a common forum for crystallographers, chemists, solid-state physicists and mineralogists, in which the scientific and interdisciplinary ideas can be exchanged.

The SSCr is linked to the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) as a specialised scientific society and represents Switzerland in the "International Union of Crystallography" and the "International Organisation for Crystal Growth". The society organises national and international congresses and symposia, seminars, conferences and thematic workshops at universities and industrial laboratories. The SSCr also strengthens its relationship to corresponding societies in other European countries with joint meetings. These relationships are maintained due to the fact that approximately 10% of the society’s members practise their activities in foreign countries.
