These two species belong to different families, but occupy the same habitat of vertical rock faces. The wall creeper is easily missed in spite of its conspicuous red-black-white top wing surface.
It breeds in rock crevices between 1000 and 3000 metres altitude. It also finds its food on rock faces. The crag-martin also breeds in crevices and hollows, but looks for its nourishment of insects in flight, during which it often patrols the steep rock faces. When it flies in a curve and so spreads its tail, a small white “window” appears on the tail feathers.
