The University of Akron, Department of Biology: Postdoctoral fellowship – Bone Biology

An NIJ-funded postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Department of Biology at the University of Akron.

The Andronowski Lab is seeking a candidate for a project investigating the effects of prolonged opioid use on cortical bone remodeling. The project employs an innovative 3D X-ray imaging technique (micro-CT), combined with dynamic histomorphometry. A particular focus of the laboratory is to further understandings of the dynamic relationship between human bone tissue and physiological and nutritional stressors (e.g., hormones, infection, substance abuse) known to affect the bone remodeling process. Prospective applicants should have experience with 3D image processing and quantitative data analysis, preparation of bone-tissue thin sections, animal handling, and dissection techniques. The successful candidate will further be an active participant in the successful planning, execution, presentation of experiments, and preparation of scientific publications. The ability to work independently and as part of an interactive team are required. The start date for the position is as early as February 2019. The initial contract will be for one year, with expectation of renewal for a second year based on satisfactory performance. Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Biology, Anatomy, Biological Anthropology (or related fields), or will have completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
