The aim of the Global Science Film Festival

www.sciencefilm.ch

“Building bridges” is at the very heart of the 2nd Global Science Film Festival: bridges between filmmakers and scientists, different professions, different areas of knowledge, different audiences and different cities. We have invited the producers, filmmakers and some of the protagonists of all feature films. After each screening, we will discuss each film together with scientists.

16 world premieres and a prize-winning Cannes film

In this edition, we received 3052 film entries from all around the world. We have selected 8 feature films, 9 short films and 9 films produced by local scientists. All in all, our festival will be hosting 16 world premieres and 2 Swiss premieres. The films negotiate current global issues and challenges from different fields of social and natural sciences, covering topics such as poaching, the role of women in science, migration, marriage migration, paramedicine, forest fires, biodiversity, global change, neuroscience and interplanetary expeditions.

One Festival two Cities: Global Science Filmfestival in Zürich and Bern

While it is the second instalment of this festival in Zurich, it’s the first time we are bringing the festival to Bern. Each of the featured films will now reach audiences at both venues of the festival in Bern and Zurich.

Award Ceremonies

Next to the best feature-length and short film award, we will also give an award to the best ‘scientists-as-filmmakers’.
