Radar remote sensing of precipitation

Time

14:15 - 15:15

Venue

Hallerstrasse 10
Bern

Weather radar is a commonly used instrument to monitor precipitation and severe weather. It makes possible to gain insights into the dynamics and microphysics of precipitation at small scale, as well as to predict the evolution of precipitation at very short lead time.

As for all remote sensing instruments, there are however some limitations and uncertainties to be aware of to avoid erroneous interpretation. In this presentation, I will focus on the use of ground-based and spaceborne weather radar systems to investigate precipitation in the alpine context.
